Funtivities to Help you Lose Weight.

Everyone at some point in their life will want to shed a few extra pounds. Everyone is also looking for a magic pill or formula that will help them lose this weight. The truth is that there is no supplement, pill or formula that will shed that extra weight without hard work and exercise. It’s true you can eat more healthy and take vitamins and other things but all of this won’t get you those desired results.

First of all know that those people you see in pictures and inline at the grocery store on the popular national magazines are all photo-shopped and enhanced to look that way. Don’t set unrealistic expectations for yourself. With that said there are ways that you can have fun while you workout. I like to call these “FUNTIVITIES”.

These are activities that are fun (hence the word “Funtivities”)  and healthy that will help you lose that extra weight. Now it’s true that if you go to the gym and get a personal trainer and consult a health professional you will probably see the best results. However, that option isn’t the best or only option for everyone. If you are just a few pounds over weight just being active can really make a big difference in your health. Below I have listed the 5 best Funtivities to help you lose weight. Check them out and give them a try. If you have other funtivities that you do on a regular basis to stay healthy please let me know.

5 Funtivities to Help you Lose Weight

1. Ultimate Frisbee

  1. This is my personal favorite way to keep in shape. You won’t belive the amount of calories you will burn playing this fun easy sport. First of all this is a team sport so you may want to get a group of friends who are all interested in weight loss and get them to come out and try to play some Frisbee. The object of the game is to score points by passing the disc to a player in the opposing end zone. When I play we play to 7 and you have to win by 2. There are only a few rules and you only need a Frisbee and an even number of people. Rule #1 the Frisbee cant touch the ground. It must be passed from teammate to teammate without the other team getting the Frisbee or it hitting the ground. Rule #2 When setting up the field there is an out of bounds area or sideline in-between end-zones however once in the end-zone there is no out of bounds so you can run forever. Rule #3 Frisbee can get physical but for everyone safety make it no contact.
2. Mountain Biking
While you wont need others to help you with this funtivitiy you will need a pretty pricey piece of equipment and some accessories that can be a lot of money as well. Mountain Biking is a sport which consists of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, using specially adapted mountain bikes. While I love Mountain Biking usally this take up a whole day and is not something you can do as constantly as you would probably like. Mixing in a Mountain biking session in between treadmill cardio days is a great way to lose weight.

3. Hiking
Hiking is an outdoor activity which consists of walking in natural environments, often in mountainous or other scenic terrain. While it might not look like a great workout your body will definitely feel it the next day. A hike can be a great family activity and can be fun, adventures and calorie burning all at the same time. Hiking is easy, go walk around outside in a wooded area and your hiking! One thing to remember when hiking is to tell someone where you are going and always pack water and a little snack because you will need it.
 4. Rec Basketball
Your local recreation center has many way you can burn calories. However one of the best maybe playing in pick up full court basketball games. The pros really make it lose easy out there because if you have ever seen average Joe and the boys play basketball its not pretty sometimes but it can be fun. All of the misses actually help you burn more calories because you will be running up and down the court like your at home on the treadmill. Next time you are at the rec center play some basketball and see what I’m talking about.
5. Swimming
This is one of the best full body workouts you can possibly do. This is also a great workout if you are injured or not able to workout normally for some reason. You will need a gym pass or access to a pool but other than that all you need for swimming is your body. Go swim a few laps and tell me it’s not one of the hardest workouts you have ever done. You will eat up calories in the pool that will have you losing those extra pounds in no time. In the name of the 2012 Olympics get out to the pool and see what those Olympians are really doing.
