Cardio Tracking Tools

When you’re working out it’s very important to keep track of your progress. A very wise man named Garrett Johnson has been quoted several times in his life. One of my favorite quotes from Mr. Johnson has to be

“The definition of insanity is doing the samething over and over and expecting to get different results”. – Garrett Johnson

Tracking your progress when you run can show you if you’re making progress or if you are wasting your time. Now we all run for different reasons. Some people run to lose weight, stay in shape or to train for a sport, marathon, iron man and the list goes on and on. One thing that will help you no matter what reason you are running is tracking your progress. You must remember that running is a long term process with long term results. Now one run every once in a while will help you in someway if you really want to see results you need to run or workout constantly.

Some treadmills will keep track of how far and how fast you run. This is very important to do on your own if your treadmill doesn’t have this feature. Some people will choose to purchase a new treadmill when they get more serious about there training. Most of these newer treadmills will allow you to save all of your runs to a profile that will keep track of your results. Also other people who use your treadmill can use a different profile so your stats won’t be disturbed.

Now that you understand the importance of running and keeping a running log and the benefits for running on a treadmill, how are you going to keep track of your progress? The answer is obviously up to you, however I have a few tips to help you keep track of your runs. The first and easiest way to keep track of your runs is as simple as a piece of paper and a pen. Get a regular notebook and track the distance and time of each of your runs. By simple writing down your time and distance you can start to get averages and see what works best for you.

If you’re a little more tech savoy there are a ton of application out there that will help you keep track of your runs. Treadmill Tracker, LogYourRun.com, Map My Run App, FitSugar.com, RunningaHead.com, Runningdiary.com and runaddicts.com are all really good resources that have endless possibilities to keep track of things from miles you run to calories you eat in a day. The more things you keep track of the more stats you have to look back on to see what is helping you train the best. Heart rate monitors and other third party devices are also great things that can give you even more information.
